STORY OF AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam, known as the City of Canals, originated in the 1100’s as a humble fishing village and rose to become Europe’s most important port of trade. Known as the most tolerant city in the world, where most anything goes, global personalities and cultural behaviours gather to co-exist in perfect harmony. A city of famous artists and inventions such as the microscope, telescope and the roll-up fire hose, Amsterdam is home to the world’s 1st Stock Exchange (1602) and the creation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Amsterdam continues to be a global hub for business, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Amsterdam… the most exciting city in the world.
STORY OF AMSTERDAM’S CAFE CULTURE
Amsterdam is Europe’s most interesting and progressive food & coffee scene. For over 200 years, the world has traveled to Amsterdam to enjoy the cafes, known as a Koffiehuis (coffee house). Amsterdam’s cafes played a critical role in the birth of liberty, enlightenment, and individual freedoms. The cafes were considered to be a safe comfortable space to share international news, discuss politics, exchange ideas, and collaborate; all while sharing a cup of solace (coffee) and Dutch treats known as “little gifts.” Amsterdam’s cafes continue to offer the world a chance to socialize, be part of the crowd, and experience Amsterdam’s tolerant culture, traditional foods, and famous art, or simply take a break and pass the time.
